Now it was about the tenth hour. Andri, the brother of Shim’on Kepha, was one of the two who heard from Yochanan, and followed Him. First he found his own brother Shim’on, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Anointed”).
And he brought him to Yahushua. And looking at him, Yahushua said, “You are Shim’on the son of Yonah, you shall be called Kepha” (which means “A Stone/Rock”).
On the following day Yahushua wished to go to Galil, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.”
And Philip was from Beyth Tsaida, the city of Andri and Kepha. Philip found Nethane’l and said to him, “We have found Him whom Mosheh wrote of in the Torah, and the prophets: Yahushua of Natsareth – the son of Yoseph.”
And Nethane’l said to him, “Is it possible for any good matter to come out of Natsareth?”
Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
Yahushua saw Nethane’l coming toward Him, and said of him, “See, truly a Yisra’elite, in whom is no deceit!”
Nethane’l said to Him, “From where do You know me?”
Yahushua answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
Nethane’l answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of Elohim! You are the Sovereign of Yisra’el!”
Yahushua answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? Greater than that you shall see.”
And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, from now on you shall see the sky opened, and the messengers of Elohim ascending and descending upon the Son of Adam.”
And on the third day there was a wedding in Qanah of Galil, and the mother of Yahushua was there. And both Yahushua and His taught ones were invited to the wedding. And when they were short of wine, the mother of Yahushua said to Him, “They have no wine.”
Yahushua said to her, “Woman, what is that to Me and to you? My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever He says to you.”
And there were six stone water-jugs standing there, according to the mode of cleansing of the Yehudim, each holding two or three measures.
Yahushua said to them, “Fill the water-jugs with water.”
And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Now draw out and take it to the master of the feast.”
So they took it. But when the master of the feast had tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from – though the servants who had drawn the water knew – the master of the feast called the bridegroom, and said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when they have drunk, then that which is poorer. You have kept the good wine until now.”
This, the beginning of the signs, Yahushua did in Qanah of Galil, and manifested His esteem. And His taught ones believed in Him. After this He went down to Kephar Nachum, He and His mother, and His brothers, and His taught ones. And there they stayed not many days.
This portion of The Good News Series is found in the Gospel of Yochanan (John) 1:40-2:11 and represents the beginning of Yahushua the Messiah’s ministry. After His immersion by Yochanan the Immerser, He begins to gather the chosen disciples, His Talmidim, to teach and instruct the nations, reclaim the lost Children of Yisra’el, and preach the coming of the Kingdom of Yahweh. As for the significance of Kepha (Peter) and the Wedding of Qanah (Cana), please see the 2 studies below for more information and study. Shalom Aleichem!
