Prayer of Azaryahu (Azariah)

Foreword

Dani’el (Daniel) 1:1-7:
(1) In the third year of the reign of Yehoyaqim, sovereign of Yehudah, Nebukadnetstsar, sovereign of Bavel came to Yerushalayim and besieged it.
(2) And יהוה gave Yehoyaqim sovereign of Yehudah into his hand, with some of the utensils of the House of Elohim, which he brought to the land of Shinʽar to the house of his mighty one. And he brought the utensils into the treasure house of his mighty one.
(3) And the sovereign said to Ashpenaz, the chief of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Yisra’ĕl and some of the sovereign’s descendants and some of the nobles,
(4) young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, having insight in all wisdom, having knowledge and understanding learning, capable to stand in the sovereign’s palace, and to teach them the writing and speech of the Chaldeans.
(5) And the sovereign appointed for them a daily ration of the sovereign’s food and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end thereof they should stand before the sovereign.
(6) Now among them were from the sons of
Yehudah: Dani’ĕl, Ḥananyahu, Misha’ĕl, and Azaryahu.
(7) And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names. For he called Dani’ĕl, Bĕlteshatstsar; and Hananyahu, Shadrak; and Misha’ĕl, Meyshak; and Azaryahu, Abed-Nego.
Azaryahu, as you have gleaned from the proceeding passage, was one of the young men reserved to serve in the house of the Chief Eunuch of Nebuchnezzer. He was renamed Abed-Nego, while in the King’s service, in the hopes that by changing His and the others’ names, religion, and customs, that they would become Persians and influenced the other Yehudim. This is his prayer while walking in the midst of the fire with Meyshak and Shadrak.

The Prayer of Azaryahu

1 And they walked in the midst of the fire, praising Yahweh, and blessing Elohim. Then Azaryahu stood up & prayed in this manner, and opening his mouth in the midst of the fire, said,
2 Blessed are you, O Yahweh Elohim of our fathers: your Name is worthy to be praised, and esteemed for evermore.
3 For you are righteous in all the things that you have done to us: yea, true are all your works: your ways are right, and all your judgments truth.
4 In all the things that you have brought upon us, and upon the set-apart city of our fathers, even Yerushalayim, you have executed true judgement: for according to truth and judgement, did you bring all these things upon us, because of our sins.
5 For we have sinned and committed lawlessness, departing from you.
6 In all things have we trespassed, and not obeyed your Commandments, nor kept them, neither done as you have commanded us, that it might go well with us.
7 Wherefore all that you have brought upon us, and everything that you have done to us, you have done in true judgement.
8 And you did deliver us into the hands of lawless enemies, most hateful forsakers of Elohim and to an unjust King, and the most wicked in all the world.
9 And now we can not open our mouths, we are become a shame, and reproach to your servants, and to them that worship you.
10 Yet deliver us not up wholly for your Name’s sake, do not remove us from your Covenant:
11 And cause not your compassion to depart from us: for your beloved Avraham’s sake: for your servant Yitschaq’s (Isaac’s) sake, and for your set-apart Yisra’el’s sake.
12 To whom you have spoken and promised, That you would multiply their seed as the stars of the shamayim, and as the sand that lies upon the sea shore.
13 For we, O Yahweh, are become less then any nation, and are kept under this day in all the world, because of our sins.
14 Neither is there at this time, Prince, or Prophet, or leader, or burnt offering, or sacrifice, or oblation, or incense, or place to sacrifice before you, and to find compassion.
15 Nevertheless in a contrite heart, and an humble spirit, let us be accepted.
16 Like as in the burnt offering of rams and bullocks, and like as in ten thousands of fat lambs: so let our sacrifice be in your sight this day, and grant that wee may wholly go after you: for they shall not be confounded that put their trust in you.
17 And now we follow you, with all our heart, we fear you, and seek your face.
18 Put us not to shame: but deal with us after your loving-kindeness, and according to the multitude of your compassion.
19 Deliver us also according to thy marvelous works, and give glory to your Name, O Yahweh, and let all them that do your servants hurt be ashamed.
20 And let them be confounded in all their power and might, and let their strength be broken.
21 And let them know that you are Master, the only Elohim, and esteemed over the whole world.
22 And the kings servants that put them in, ceased not to make the oven hot with rosin, pitch, and small wood.
23 So that the flame streamed forth above the furnace, forty and nine cubits:
24 And it passed through, and burnt those Chaldeans it found about the furnace.
25 But the Messenger of Elohim came down into the oven, together with Azaryahu and his fellows, and smote the flame of the fire out of the oven:
26 And made the midst of the furnace, as it had been a moist whistling wind, so that the fire touched them not at all, neither hurt nor troubled them.
27 Then the three, as out of one mouth, praised, esteemed, and blessed Elohim in the furnace, saying;
28 Blessed are you, O Yahweh Elohim of our fathers: and to be praised and exalted above all forever.
29 And blessed is your amazing and set-apart Name: and to be praised and exalted above all forever.
30 Blessed are you in the Temple of your set-apart esteem: and to be praised and exalted above all forever.
31 Blessed are you that beholds the depths, and sits upon the Kerubim, and to be praised and exalted above all forever.
32 Blessed are you on the esteemed Throne of your kingdom: and to bee praised and esteemed above all forever.

66 O give thanks unto Elohim, because he is compassionate: for his loving-kindness endures forever.
67 O all you that worship Yahweh, bless the Elohim of elohim, praise him, and give him thanks: for his loving-kindness endures forever.
