I was getting a cup of coffee in one of the hospitalilty areas at work when I saw something rather odd. There, lying on a coffee table next to several magazines, was a copy of the New Testament. In the age of the “New Testament church” (nice catch line, but doesn’t exist – really), it is not unheard of to see a copy of the Psalms, Proverbs, and the New Testament sitting somewhere, but this was just the New Testament. Now, I am not saying that the Brit Chadashah, or New Testament as you may call it, does not contain valuable information in it. Heaven forbid! It contains priceless examples of what it means to walk in righteousness as our Messiah Yahushua did and as His Talmidim (Apostles) did.
But without the Tanakh (Old Testament), how will you know the meaning of over half of things Messiah said, or for that matter 75% of what Sha’ul (Paul), Kepha (Peter), Yehudah (Jude), Ya’aqov (James), or Yochanan (John) meant in their writings. Not to mention that when these men were walking the Earth, now hold on to something because this might shock you – There was no New Testament (and there was no “church” – sorry to burst your bubble)!
As I leave you to ponder these things, I will leave you with one more thing:
Mattityahu (Matthew) 4:4, Luços (Luke) 4:4: But he answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of Elohim.”
This was said by the Messiah quoting Devarim (Deuteronomy) 8:3: “And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knew not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of Elohim does man live.”
The words given directly from the mouth of Yahweh where given in the Tanakh and the Prophets! Just something to think about!
